The MKT Trail

The audio is bad, I had to rerecord my narration about eight times and I was rushing. Here is the transcript in case you can't hear some things. The MKT trail is one of the main tourist attractions in Columbia. The trails carved out in the woods are great for any type of exercise or even a place to be alone with your thoughts. For some reason, these trails remind me of a place I used to go camping when I was little, called Chadwick. These were no ordinary camping trips, however. Chadwick is designed specifically for dirt bike and ATV riders. Since I was about six, I've been trained on how to ride these machines. I spent the majority of my years taking my ATV on easy trails, like this one, to what we called the creek. But as I got older, I was required to go on harder trails, like this one. It takes skill, speed, and a lot of muscle control to hold the machine steady while rocks are trying to displace you. Chadwick is in the Mark Twain National Forest in Southern Missouri. Columbia has numerous Mark Twain references, the most personal for me being Mark Twain Residence Hall. I transferred to Mizzou last semester, but the year before I would visit my friends who lived in Mark Twain. I have many memories of this hall and the area it is located. One of the entrances to MKT is located near Mark Twain on Stewart Road, and it is on this road where tragedy happened in 1923. James T.
