How to Clean a Concrete Floor With Sand

One of the best ways to clean concrete floors is to use a sand blaster. Such a machine can be used for the cleaning of wood, metal and stone as well. The sand blasting machine works simply. It uses compressed air to target the granules of sand towards the surface. The speeded particles remove the dirt and grime immediately. You can sand blast a concrete surface to make it as clean and as good as new. In order to achieve the best results, you have to learn how to clean a concrete floor with sand first.

As a start, you will need to equip yourself with the right materials and tools. These include the blaster, fine silica sand, plastic sheeting, safety glasses, helmet with specific ventilation and a pair of overalls. You need to protect the surrounding area by covering it, so that it won't accumulate the sand that will be jumping off the floor. Cover the entire surrounding area with the plastic sheeting.

Make sure the place you are working in is well ventilated. Wear your safety glasses, overalls and helmet. Make sure the helmet has protective ventilation which will prevent any dust particles from reaching your head.

Take the sand blaster and fill the tank with silica sand. Then turn on the compressor. Set it on low pressure in the beginning. Make sure the pressure is around 40 to 50 pounds psi.

Hold the sand blaster around 16 inches from your body and point the nozzle to the concrete floor. Then squeeze the trigger. Make sure you treat each area with sand for as long as necessary. You can gradually increase the pressure until the concrete floor has no dirt or grime on it. You need to use short sweeping blasts on areas with stubborn dirt spots.

Once the concrete floor is completely clean, you can treat it additionally, as you like.
