New Technology Creates a Solution For Cleaning Rust Stains From Concrete

Cleaning rust stains from concrete is definitely not a topic that gets people excited. However it is a global problem on one of the most used commodities on earth. For those with unsightly concrete that may have also become slippery from algae and mold buildup a safe cleaning solution will provide relief.

If you have ever tried cleaning rust stains you know the challenge. You may have even tried many of the remedies with varying degrees of success. Gel technology has finally provided a solution that works. By blending muriatic acid with a gel a new product was created that cleans and etches concrete effectively.

Here's Why

1. Gel acids provide control - Gels are rolled on a surface and stay exactly where they are applied. Liquid acids run. Liquids provide uneven results. gels provide even, consistent, predictable results.

2. Gel Acids are not diluted - liquid acids are dangerous and require diluting with water. By adding 2 parts water a 32% acid is diluted to 10%. A gel with 20% acid is exactly a 20% acid since it does not get diluted. gels are consistent.

3. Gels Are Carriers of Rust, Mold, Algae - When a liquid acid is applied to concrete it cleans the concrete. However the rust and mold quickly settles back into the concrete and never fully cleans the surface. Gels work as a carrier. When the acid cleans the concrete the gel carries the the rust and mold. Clean the gels by pulling into small piles with a squeegee and dispose of with a dust pan or shovel.

4. Gels Are Safe - Gels are easily poured into a paint tray and rolled on a surface. Some gels are blended free of VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds). They do not burn like a liquid and can be safe to the environment.

5. Gels Only Work At The Interface - The acid in a gel only works at the interface of the concrete and do not get stuck in the pinholes of concrete like a liquid. This is especially important if planning on applying a coating or sealer. Liquid acid particles get stuck in the small pinholes in concrete and are reactivated by floor paints, epoxies and sealers causing failure. As a result gel acids are an effective concrete etching solution and ideal if planning on cleaning the concrete and applying a sealer or coating.

6. Cleaning Vertical Applications - Liquid acid cannot defy gravity but a gelled acid can. So if you have a concrete wall or column you can roll the gel right on the surface. It might run a little if you apply too thick but by just applying thin it will stay right where it is applied. For cleaning rust stains from concrete on a vertical surface it can't be beat. Just wash off with water, let dry and seal and it will stay clean for years.
